Mexico's President Asks South Korea for More BTS Concerts

Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum sent a diplomatic note to South Korea's PM due to a ticket sales scandal for BTS concerts. Due to overwhelming demand and fraud reports, the head of state requested additional shows and is exploring alternatives for fans.

President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, revealed this Monday that she sent a diplomatic note to the Prime Minister of South Korea, Kim Min-seok, to request his intervention and secure more concerts for the South Korean group BTS in Mexico, amidst the controversy over the ticket presale and high demand among Mexican youth. The controversy over the BTS tickets led to the intervention of the Federal Consumer Prosecutor's Office (Profeco), and its head, Iván Escalante, reported that before the sale, complaints were detected through social media monitoring and direct consumer communications. According to some fans of the popular band, tickets were sold to resellers at the box office of the GNP Seguros Stadium, the venue for the concerts, when supposedly the sale was exclusively online. The Mexican president's reaction comes amid the controversy generated by followers of the famous 'K-Pop' group, who denounced a lack of transparency in the purchasing process and described the ticket sales outside the official mechanism as fraudulent. Sheinbaum explained that the ticket sales weekend was marked by complaints related to reselling and lack of clarity in the process, which led her to communicate directly with the organizers. After receiving the response that no more dates were planned, the president decided to escalate the issue to a diplomatic level and added that alternatives, such as installing screens to expand public access, are also being explored. "I still haven't received a response, but let's hope it's positive," the head of state informed during her morning press conference. "And they want to buy it close to 1 million young people and there are only 150,000 tickets," stated the head of state referring to the imbalance between demand and supply for the three concerts scheduled by the band in the country's capital. "I wrote a letter to the Prime Minister of Korea asking him to (BTS) come more times." The concerts will be in May.
